Lake Superior Agates are thought to be over 1 billion years old. They were made in lava flows in what is now the Lake Superior region of North America. Glaciers transported the agates over many thousands of square miles. Lake Superior agates are found in Canada and South to Kansas and can be found as far West as Nebraska. I found these stones in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. Many collectors treat their finer stones by washing, then an acid bath and finally a good soaking in mineral oil to reveal their colors. These agates have all been through the process. Enjoy !!! |
