This is not my largest agate at 1 1/2 pounds but it is
my favorite ... so far. I found this and 2 other large nearly undamaged agates within 100 yards of each other ... but several years between finds.
I believe there are areas where the glaciers deposited large frozen chunks of the former North Shore of Lake Superior rich in agates. These areas have red clay exposed along with red and black lava rocks. I have even found Thomsonites
mixed in this type of glacial till. Try looking for areas of "old red till" on a geologic map and see what you can find there.
